Central VirginiaProximity to the nation’s capital makes Central Virginia attractive to defense contractors
Rivanna Station in Albemarle County is a military base housing three of the nation’s top military intelligence agencies: the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC), and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). To support these federal agencies, several defense contractors and manufacturers are located in the region, such as Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen & Hamilton, CACI, and Aerojet Rocketdyne. Nearby Greene County is a designated Defense Production Incentive Zone, allowing for tax incentives to support defense-related businesses.
Charlottesville is home to the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School (TJAGLCS) on the Grounds of the University of Virginia. Also located in Charlottesville is the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Federal Executive Institute, an executive management and training center for government leaders, used by many federal government departments, including the Department of Defense.
